Jo Bounds

I feel very privileged to be a midwife. I don't see it as a job but my way of life. I have been a midwife for over 20 years and have experience in hospital and the community within the NHS. My work in the community involved offering choices and the promotion of home births, for which I achieved uptake higher than the national average. Although I loved my job I was increasingly frustrated with the lack of continuity and time that stopped me practicing in the way I wanted too.

My decision to become independent allowed me the freedom to work holistically with women and their families. This enables me to offer the sort of care that I believe in without budget ties and time limits. My aim is to make women feel special, nurtured and safe. Working in this way empowers women to have the confidence to come to their own decisions in this special time of their lives. I will give them the freedom to work alongside me in a partnership of trust and understanding. I work in partnership with Andrea Dombrowe and closely with alternative therapists and other independent colleagues.

I am based in Guildford with my husband and have 4 children. I love living in my community and am involved with the local school. I enjoy all thing sporty and live music.

I run Active Birth weekends together with Andrea Dombrowe.
